The Making of Stella McCartney

London native and Daughter of legendary rockstar Paul McCartney and world-renowned photographer Linda McCartney, Stella McCartney has success running through her veins. Growing up, she gained her passion and appreciation for the environment from her mother who was an animal rights activist and vegetarian, and her mother continues to be her muse for the brand today. Stella attended Central Saint Martins in London and was shortly after appointed as creative director of Chloé in 1997 before creating her own brand in 2001, being instantly successful from the start.

Financials

In the year ending on December 31, 2021, Stella McCartney had a 14% increase in revenue to 32.4 million dollars compared to their previous year in 2020 which was 28.3 million dollars. However, even though the brand has higher sales, they are being offset by increased administrative expenses amid a wider restructuring. This is attributed to the company’s split from the luxury conglomerate Kering. This caused a $40 million loss, and it is the third year in a row that the company has reported a loss of over $30 million dollars.
